Sometimes, we kick ourselves in the butt for overspending in clothes and accessories. This little list is something I usually remind myself of when I’m shopping with the girls and am somewhat low on funds.

  1. Go in a store or in a shopping trip with a definite budget in mind. Usually if I’m shopping for the sake of hanging with friends, my ultimate budget is twenty bucks. I’d like to spend nothing but sometimes you just find something on sale that is perfect for you and is a must-have.
  2. Ask yourself – do you really need it? Or are you able to get it another time, when you have more money to spend?
  3. Hit the clearance rack. Some people I know are pretty prideful and tend to not check the clearance rack. I personally hit the clearance rack first when I enter the store. You just never know what you might find – either something or a lotta nothing but it doesn’t hurt the check! 75% off anything is good for the budget.
  4. Will you remember that item at the end of the shopping trip? One thing you can do is either have the item on-hold or put it back on the shelf and continue your shopping trip around the mall or the store. By the end of that trip, if you still remember it or feel like your life would be incomplete without it, you can always go back to the store and retrieve it. Otherwise, you’ve forgotten it and really didn’t need to spend the money to buy an item that really didn’t impact you.
  5. Keep the tag on. I honestly rarely do this, but I’ve noticed a pattern that I regret buying an item if I don’t wear that item immediately after purchase because it usually means it didn’t look as flattering as when I tried it on in-store. Why not just return it and keep your closet clutter-free at the same time?

So those are my little tips that I can think of right now on how to budget your money in fashion. They are pretty straightforward but sometimes I feel like we need to be reminded!

Anything you would like to add?

Last weekend, my boyfriend and I took a little couple’s mini-vacation to Morongo’s Casino and Resort in the desert.

It has been a really long time since I dipped into a pool and it was really refreshing to do so. I was able to wear the new bathing suit I mentioned and we swam in a lazy river, went down a wet slide, and just enjoyed the water. Other new experiences include a ride up to the mountains of Palm Spring via the Aerial Tramway and my first ever pedicure. Hello classic red toenails!

Ever since I started following Heart on her youtube and blog, I’ve been really into light pink stuff! Before, really girly things somewhat bugged me because I was a bit of a tomboy growing up. But I suppose after exploring more into feminine products, things like this H&M bracelet struck me as too awesome to pass up.

I walked into H&M yesterday with the main desire to buy a bathing suit, and lo and behold, there are quite a few light pink / coral colored jewelries just dangling near the bathing suit section. I couldn’t resist buying it.

Am I the only one who’s falled into the coral trend bandwagon?

If you have just found out about my humble abode that is supernovachick.com, let me briefly tell you about an online store that I co-own – shoprms.com. At the moment, it’s a jewelry / accessories store but me and my friend Cara see it to have so much potential.

Right now, I feel like our biggest obstacle as a new business is getting the word out. Seeing as I started off as a fashion blogger, I thought it would be a terrific idea if we can get other bloggers excited about our store. So we’re asking you to help us, and we’ll definitely compensate that with free jewelry and accessories. Win-win, I hope!

There are certain guidelines that we put forth just because we are a new business with limited resources at the moment. If you are interested, please take a look at this link to learn more.

Eep, I’m excited!

For five days last week, I was visiting a friend of mine in Wichita, Kansas. I’ve never been outside of California (aside from Las Vegas, but people say that doesn’t count -.-”) and it seemed like a fun idea to go so extreme, as in the middle of nowhere. So I did!

(Peeking out onto the vast plain of Wichita from the airport)

Hawthorne Suite at East Wichita

(I stayed at the Hawthorne Suite in East Wichita. Lovely rooms with a great price – if you reserve online)

(Just to be on the safe side with TSA, I bought my hygiene-related stuff after landing)

Butterflies!

(There were so many butterflies!)

Peacock

(Visited the Sedgwick Zoo. Peacocks!)

(Baby goats nibbling so adorably on my finger)

Giraffe

(<3)

(Visited the Keeper of the Plains statue as it lights up at night)

(I’ve never seen a QuikTrip in the SoCal area. Is it a just a midwest thing?)

wichita tornado

(Leftover from the large tornado that plummeted the area the day before I came. This was taken five days after the tornadoes and a lot of the wreckage had already been cleaned up by that point)

(Looking down onto  Kansas!)

(Mesmerized by the swirls of clouds)

(Just so beautiful and peaceful)

(Looking down on Colorado)

Overall, the weather was gorgeous. We ate at a lot of local restaurants that comprised of burgers, tacos, quiches, and bbq. The zoo was quaint but lovely as the animals were treated with extra care. I’ve never traveled anywhere by myself and going through the process of booking plane trips and hotels, and scheduling all that was just a great experience. As for getting to see another part of the country that I’m not used to experiencing my day to day life, as well as the people, it was all an adventure.

I’m going to try something new – week in review. Ever since Instagram came on the Android marketplace, I’ve been taking pictures more regularly on my phone of everyday-otherwise-mundane stuff.

It seems like a popular blog thing and I always enjoy peeking into other people’s random things, so why not, right?

This week, I went to Kansas for a few days to visit a friend during Spring Break. Things went down, lol. Things like going to their zoo, snuggling with Rafiki, munching on some Udon and Bulgogi, and hanging out with some authors at the LA Times Book fair.

Overall a way too productive week.

Marylin Monroe

Is it a little scary that I’ve never seen a Marylin Monroe film before?

My depiction of her from the way people talked is that she was basically a sex kitten – provocative and somewhat of a playboy bunny – and that didn’t really interest me. But I’ve been in an oldies film mood recently and thought I’d watch the Seven Year Itch, a 1955 film about a married man who is lusting over Marylin but trying to stay faithful to his wife (quite comedic), and she was so adorable in it! Very charming in everything she did. Sometimes it felt a bit forced but otherwise, oh so natural.

Maybe after another movie, I might call myself a Marylin Monroe fan.

Spring is in the air, and I’m ready to bring out my shorts! I bought the floral scarf from H&M during my Irvine trip and I’m loving it. It’s the first ever scarf that I’ve actually bought. How crazy is that?

Last year, I was really into heels. I wore heels to school nearly every day and liked the girly feeling that is usually paired with wearing heels.

But this year, I’ve lacked the energy to wear them. You know that energy that I’m talking about. It takes effort to deal with heels. You can’t run in them, it can cause a lot of noise in a quiet room, and you end up with a tired set of footsies at the end of the day.

Aside from a couple of Chuck sneakers, I had one pair of white lacey flats (that you actually see in a lot of my pictures) that I got from H&M, and that’s it. So now, I’m looking to expand my flats collection for these lazy days.

Here comes the multicolored flats I bought for $15 at Ross. It’s nice – I don’t really have bright colored shoes. Most are neutrals, browns and blacks, etc. This one just pops out. But perfect for Spring, right?
